
Guatemala Program Coordinator
With a formal background in biology and conservation, María José has been dedicated to amphibian research and conservation for several years. Her work has focused on disease monitoring, microbiome analysis, and conservation strategies for endangered species, particularly through projects like the EDGE of Existence Fellowship with the endangered salamander Nyctanolis pernix and regional amphibian protection initiatives. Originally from Guatemala, María José is actively involved in herpetological research and environmental education. At AArk, María José will combine her experience in amphibian ecology, field research, and conservation planning to support the development of ex situ programs in Guatemala.
